“If I could go back with hands up, I’d look up to the sky.”-Calvin Harris
Happy Monday! I’m bright-eyed over-caffeinated, and totally ready to conquer this week. This weekend left me feeling refreshed, re-energized, and ready to tackle the mess I’m sure this week will bring. PLUS it’s Wine Week here in the Always Sunny and I’ve made plans to celebrate!
Since I was pretty much AWOL last week, I thought I’d give a recap of my weekend in DC. Since I shared most of our Friday adventures here, I’ll start with Saturday. I woke up at 4:30 on Saturday morning to throw down some breakfast and the rain was already starting. At first it was just a slight drizzle, but as the sun came up (well…barely), the rain seemed to get heavier. By the time I was crossing the starting line, it was coming down pretty heavy. And it didn’t seem to give way…for all 13.1 miles. Around mile 6, I hit a
wall hill that stopped me in my tracks. I decided to Gu up the hill and then coasted for the next 4 miles or so. Around mile 11, my body felt stiff and heavy and I felt like I might fall over. I grabbed some water and then ran the last mile and a half at what felt like snails’ speed. I finished the race drenched, exhausted, and raw. My heels were torn apart from my wet sneakers and my clothes added a good 10 pounds to my already dragging body. But I will say, I’d run DC again in a heartbeat. Regardless of all the rain, the city still looked beautiful.
It took me a while to get back to the hotel, and by the time I did, the rain was starting to slow down (go figure). I took a long, hot shower, stretched out, pulled on my compression socks, and spent a couple hours catching up on some shows, with a bottle of champagne. Once the rain stopped completely, Izz and I decided to venture out for a little lunch and shopping. We hit Zara, Anthropolgie, and H&M before it started raining again. So that left one option: happy hour. I opted for a tequila soda with a splash of pineapple juice, and lots of edamame. The perfect post-race treat!
Two of our girl friends live down in DC, so they came over and we all went to POV, a bar and restaurant on top of the W Hotel. It overlooked all of DC and was absolutely breathtaking. Had the sky been a little bit clearer we could have seen much more, but it was pretty cool being able to see into the White House at night. After POV, we headed to a little local spot, to make like the rest of DC and celebrate St. Paddy’s day. We grabbed a beer at The Big Hunt before my legs and I called it a night. I can’t wait to go back to DC again to visit my girls, and explore the rest of the city. It definitely won me over a little bit and I hear their spring time booze cruises are the best way to see the city 😉
