Come and Get It

“The reason I think I’m something special baby is cause I was never broken by you.”-John Newman

Hey there strangers. I took the week off for my birthday, but it ended up lasting a few more than I had originally planned. Getting back into the work groove last week was a struggle, so this was the first time I had to sit down and catch up with you. Lots of fun things happened that I wanted to share, so let’s do a little recap of the past couple weeks.

IMG_9959Avalon. My week down the shore was absolutely perfect. All of my friends and family came down throughout the week and the birthday celebrations didn’t really stop until almost a week after my birthday. When we got there on Saturday, we unpacked all of our stuff and cracked opened the Coronas. We made our way to The Princeton for some dancing and drinking. On Sunday, I woke up early and made the house breakfast, before we headed to the beach for Sunday Funday. Once the sun started frying us, we decided to grab an early dinner at Quahog’s aka Stone Harbor seafood heaven. Monday was my actual birthday, and we spent the day on the beach, before going to The Windrift for dinner. The rest of the week was a mix of family, friends and lots of sun and sand. I think 26 is off to an unbelieveable start.

Third Eye Blind Concert. 3EB has been my favorite band since I was in high school and the Saturday that we left the shore, they happened to be playing in Philly. We drove home, got ready, and went straight to Festival Pier and saw them perform, along with Dashboard Confessional. I didn’t stop singing/dancing from the second we got there. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a concert there and I forgot how much fun that venue is. The weather was kind of cloudy when we went in and we kept praying that the rain would hold off. And it did. Literally two minutes after the show ended and we were headed home, it started to pour. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to wrap up my beach week 🙂

NYCFC Last weekend was quite busy. It was my first summer Friday in the city, and I couldn’t wait to hit happy hour with my loves. I had some family in town too, so we went to Varga Bar for dinner and drinks. I ran a few errands on Saturday and was in bed early because first thing on Sunday morning (after a 7-mile run in a torrential downpour), I was off to NYC. My best friend has season tickets to the New York City Football Club and they were playing at Yankee Stadium. I got there in time to brunch and then head to the Bronx for the game. The sun came out just in time and even though we lost, I still had an amazing first professional soccer game experience.

Training IMG_9881Marathon training has been going really well. I can hardly believe we’re already into July. Being able to cross off each week from my plan is exciting, but also a little nerve-wracking. I kept training the entire time I was at the beach, which went a lot better than I thought it would. City summers are usually hot and humid, but I’ve lucked out with training during these months. Here’s what my log looks like from this week:

  • Monday:5-mile run
  • Tuesday: 3-mile run+upper body weights
  • Wednesday: 12x200s (2.5 miles total/18 minutes) intervals+leg weights
  • Thursday: 3-mile run+upper body weights
  • Friday: 45-minute tempo
  • Saturday: 6-mile run
  • Sunday: REST

Sorry for the novel of a post. I hope everyone has some fun plans for the holiday. I haven’t decided where I’m spending it, but I know there will be plenty of champagne, Firecracker popsicles, and lots of pretty firey explosives! Cheers to enjoying Fourth of July weekend! Xoxox
